DetailsThe 2008 Rules of Golf Workshop is divided into five sessions, and will take place on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 10 PM at the Dorval Community Center located at 1335 Lakeshore Road in Dorval starting April 2nd. Who may attend: Everybody is welcome to the workshop. Whether your interest is a better understanding of the rules as a player, a club official or your goal is to become a certified rules of golf official, this is for you. What you will get out of it is up to you. You will find as a player that the rules are (contrary to popular belief) often helpful. As a club official, you will be asked to render rulings and settle disputes. The workshop is a good way to prepare yourself for a Rules of Golf Seminar. Those seminars are given by Golf Quebec and by the RCGA and are conductive to official certification. The Rules of Golf workshop is not a Golf Quebec Rules seminar and is not sponsored or supervised by neither Golf Quebec or the RCGA. It is offered as a service to the golfing public as a means to further the general knowledge of the rules and to promote their use in everyday play. There is no cost to attend but space is limited and enrollment is mandatory. The workshop instructor has achieved level 4 certification which constitutes the highest rules official certification awarded by the RCGA. The workshop will be conducted in English but questions can be asked and will be answered in French. Prerequisites: Apart from an interest to learn about the Rules of Golf, there are no prerequisites to attend the workshop. "Rules of Golf" books will be available for purchase ( 5$). The "Decisions on the Rules of Golf" book will not be available for purchase and is not mandatory. However, it is almost impossible to learn the Rules of Golf efficiently without it. The book is available for purchase (30.00$ + S&H ) from the RCGA web site (www.rcga.org). It can be ordered online and will arrive at your home within a few days. It is recommended that you get a copy for yourself and that you consult it often.
(Note that the "Rules of Golf " are updated every four years and that 2008 is one of those years. The ''Rules Book'' will be current until 2012. The "Decisions on the Rules of Golf" book is valid for two years 2008 and 2009.)
